Breaking records is part and parcel of Serena Williams' dominant and illustrious tennis career but the world number one still revels in her growing list of accomplishments.

Williams became the most winningest woman in Open Era history with grand slam victory number 307 after defeating Johanna Larsson 6-2 6-1 in the third round of the US Open on Saturday.

Seeking her 23rd grand slam title, six-time US Open champion Williams moved level with men's star Roger Federer - eclipsing Martina Navratilova in the process.

Asked to sum up her mindset when considering no man or woman has won more matches than her, Williams said: "It was a really good feeling, I have to say. It is actually a really good feeling.

"So to be up there with both men and women is something that's super rare, and it actually feels good."

Williams, who will face Yaroslava Shvedova in the last 16, added: "Well, each number I'm definitely most proud of. I was really excited to reach 307. I was really excited to do that. Something I didn't even know about until Wimbledon. I was like, Oh, I have a new goal.

"That was pretty cool for me. Obviously I want to keep that number going higher and see what can happen."

"I think a lot of it has to do with just my mentality. Just never wanting to quit and still being able to compete at a high level," she continued."I'm not sure if I wasn't able to compete at a high level how I would feel, but I don't know."

The 34-year-old American shows no signs of slowing down just yet, adding: "I'm still having fun out there. I'm still able to compete with the best. I think that's what matters most for me."
