Andy Murray happy with quick Wimbledon win

Andy Murray is hoping the way he dismantled Liam Broady in quick time in the first round of Wimbledon was a sign of things to come in his home grand slam.

Andy Murray is hoping the manner in which he dismantled Liam Broady in quick time in the first round of Wimbledon was a sign of things to come in his home grand slam.

The world number two spoke of his determination to avoid marathon early-round contests after he was taken to five sets in the first two rounds of the French Open en route to losing against Novak Djokovic in the final.

Second seed Murray had no such trouble on the grass at the All England Club on Tuesday, easing to a 6-2 6-3 6-4 victory against his fellow-Brit just before the rain started to fall.

Two-time grand-slam champion Murray is eager for more of the same as he prepares to face Lu Yen-hsun in round two.

The Scot said: "In any tournament it's important, when you have a chance to win a match quickly, to do it. It's not always that easy. Sometimes your opponents can play very well, and sometimes you're struggling a little bit.

"But when you have the opportunity in matches to finish them, you have to try and be ruthless. That's something that I'm happy today I got done in three sets. If that had gone to four, potentially I'd have to hang around and wait [due to the weather].

"Actually, I wouldn't. I had the roof!

The 2013 Wimbledon champion added: "The French Open was tough for me. I had a couple of long matches to start the tournament.

"I have also done it a lot of times in slams, where I have been quick in the first week, won the matches fairly quickly. I just need to try and understand why that's been the case in the past, and hopefully I can have another good start here."
