Deceased identified as aide to New Edubiase United president

Abdul Salam Yakubu has confirmed that Wahab Mohammed, the man who was gunned down by armed robbers in Tema, was sent to withdraw money on his behalf

Suspected armed robbers on a motorbike gunned down a man around the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) traffic light in Tema.

The deceased, known as Wahab Mohammed, and his colleague, who are workers of Ferro Fabric in Tema, went to withdraw money belonging to the owner of New Edubiase United from Zenith Bank and while on perched on a motorbike on their way back, they were accosted by robbers.

Abdul Salam Yakubu in an interview told Pulse Sports he sent Wahab to withdraw the money on his behalf, expressing his sadness at the unfortunate turn of events.

“I am really sad about the death of Wahab. I sent him to go for the money and I think the armed robbers could have taken the money without necessarily killing him,” he said

“They could have shot his legs, but instead they fired the bullet into his head and blew his brains, so he died on the spot. I believe it was a well calculated effort to kill.

"There were two persons on the bike yet they killed him specifically. Afterwards, they started celebrating over his death, while daring the people in the neighbourhood to come forward if they were man enough.’’

Pulse Sports understands that the armed robbers made away with a substantial amount of money after the murder – a sum that included the salaries of the playing body of New Edubiase United.

The Bekwai-based club are currently in the first division of the Ghanaian league and are making efforts to fight back to the Ghana Premier League.
