Western RFA pre screens players for U17 ahead of national selection

The Western Region Football Association has organized a two-day screening exercise for U17 players ahead of their turn for the national selection process for the new Black Starlets team which is currently on a regional tour.

Head coach of the Black Starlets, Paa Kwesi Fabin is visiting all ten regional capital cities to select talented juvenile players for the team in a feverish quest to break the jinx that has stopped the country from qualifying to the FIFA U17 World Cup since 2007.

Western Region according to the national program released by the GFA will have its selection day on Tuesday, January 26 and the WRFA proactively has taken steps to narrow down the expected huge number of players to report on the day to enable Coach Fabin the luxury of time in one day to observe the youngsters in the hope that the region gets some representation in the final team.

Regional development coach, Abdul Malik Mohammed and his two other colleagues, Mustapha Fubail and Boniface Ayipah supervised about 200 players in the preliminary phase of the screening program for the region on Monday and Tuesday at the Gyandu park.

The players came from various towns and villages within the Western Region from Tarkwa,Prestea, Sehwi, Sekondi, Takoradi and others. A final list of 66 players were selected for next Tuesday's exercise.
