Michael Essien storms Chelsea for fitness training

Essien is training at the Chelsea football club complex and insists he isn't ready to retire

He won every major honour and was even named BBC's African Footballer of the Year in 2006.

The Ghanaian midfielder is currently a free agent, having been released by Greek outfit Panathinaikos. But in an effort to prove he is not considering retiring just yet, Essien was back at Chelsea’s Cobham training base this week.

Taking to Instagram this week the 33-year-old shared a short video with his 491,000 followers, showing himself working out on an exercise bike along with the caption: 'Let's gooo.'

The former Stamford Bridge hero can be seen wearing the current fluorescent green training attire of Chelsea as he powers away on the gym bike.

During his tenure in English football, Essien enjoyed a trophy-laden spell, winning all major honours including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup - as well as being named Chelsea player of the year in 2007.

Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory were linked with a move for Essien back in September, however a deal failed to materialise.

Essien, who will turn 34 in December, also enjoyed playing spells at Real Madrid, AC Milan and Lyon.
