Hearts, Kotoko face-off on 1st July

The two most glamourous clubs in domestic football in Ghana will come face to face on Friday.

Kotoko will be seeking revenge for their last year’s defeat in the President’s Cup against Hearts of oak, whereas the Soulama Abdoulaye’s howler that gifted Kotoko the victory over Hearts of Oak in the first round of the Ghana Premier League is also fresh on the minds of the Phobians.

Hearts of Oak will be relying on the potentials of players like Samudeen Ibrahim, Cosmos Dauda, Isaac Mensah and new sensation Patrick Razak.

While the impact of Dauad Mohammed, the leading top of Asante Kotko, Eric Donkor, Bennett Ofori and the skipper of the side, Amos Frimpong would count in the fixture.

This is the third time Hearts of Oak will be taking on their bitterest rivals in the President’s Cup. The first time was in 2005, which the Porcupine Warriors won 1-0 and Phobians would avenge that defeat ten years later in 2015 when they won 5-4 on penalties, after the game had ended in a goalless draw.

Hearts of Oak the winners of the maiden President’s Cup in 2003, are the most successful club in the anal of the cup competition played in honour of the sitting President of the Republic of Ghana with three titles.
