Hodgson, a foundation player of Force and three-time Nathan Sharpe Medallist, will mark his 12th season at the club in 2017.
Hodgson re-signs with Western Force in Super Rugby
Western Force veteran Matt Hodgson re-signed with the Super Rugby club for another season.
A veteran of 131 Force appearances, 11-time Australia international Hodgson - who will step down as match-day captain - already has an eye on the future.
He will do more coaching next year before officially becoming part of Force's structure in 2018.
“I guess you could say this contract is in two parts, one being the playing aspect and the second moving into a coaching position and being part of the club in that way for a long time into the future," he said.
"It's something as a club we are looking at; trying to get players more involved in different aspects of rugby as a business and coaching genuinely excites me.
"I want to become a mentor to the younger players coming through, to be a sounding board for transitioning players and hopefully push them into long successful careers here in Western Australia."
Force endured a poor 2016 campaign, winning just two of their 15 matches.
