Saracens produce stunning Premiership display

There was nothing Worcester Warriors could do as Saracens ran in four second-half tries to start their Premiership defence with a 35-3 win.

Defending champions Saracens looked in fine form as they opened their Premiership campaign with a comprehensive 35-3 victory over Worcester Warriors at Twickenham.

After a tight opening half that saw the hosts lead 6-3, they turned on the style after the break, running in 29 unopposed points to crush their opponents.

Alex Lozowski starred for Sarries with 20 points, the fly-half scoring one try, kicking three conversions and three penalties.

Tries from Jamie George, Schalk Burger and Ben Spencer ensured a bonus point for the 2015-16 champions, while Worcester were left to lick their wounds on a torrid opening day.

Bath director of rugby Todd Blackadder fared much better on his Premiership bow as his new charges hung on to beat Northampton Saints 18-14, George Ford scoring all of Bath's points at Franklin's Gardens.

The England international put two drop goals over in the first half to give Bath the edge, and he added another four penalties after the restart.

Northampton threatened to spoil Blackadder's day, though, as two converted Nic Groom tries brought them within four, but the Saints could not find another way through.

Bristol's return to the top flight ended in a narrow opening-day defeat to Harlequins in the second game to be played at Twickenham.

Having beaten Doncaster Knights to end their seven-year exile, Bristol started well as Tom Varndell opened the scoring with a 20th minute try.

And they led 14-3 after half an hour as Tusi Pisi also touched down, however they could not keep Quins at bay as Marland Yarde and Joe Marchant began their revival.

The boot of Nick Evans did the rest of the damage to secure a narrow win for Quins, Ryan Edwards' try early in the second half ensuring a losing bonus point for Bristol.
