Rangers trump Penguins, Red Wings get past Senators

A clinical third period saw the New York Rangers defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins, while the Detroit Red Wings got past the Ottawa Senators in the NHL.

The New York Rangers made it four-consecutive victories in the NHL courtesy of a 3-0 shutout of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.

Forward Kevin Hayes opened the scoring eight minutes, 34 seconds into the contest to give the Rangers the advantage.

After a scoreless second period, the Rangers doubled their advantage early in the third thanks to Dominic Moore, before Jesper Fast capped it off with 90 seconds left on the clock.

Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves for his third shutout of the season.

The Detroit Red Wings kept pace with the Florida Panthers in the Atlantic division with a 3-1 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Danny Dekeyser had the Red Wings rolling just three minutes into the first period for his career-high seventh goal of the season.

Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg scored his 10th of the season to make it 2-0 early in the third period, before Zack Smith pulled one back for the Senators on the power-play.

However, Darren Helm scored into an empty net with just over a minute left on the clock to secure a third-straight win for the Red Wings.

Meanwhile, the Vancouver Canucks moved above the Arizona Coyotes in the Pacific division with a 2-1 victory courtesy of Jannik Hansen's second-period winner.
