Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry ended a contract stand-off and signed a $10.8million franchise tender with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Head coach Andy Reid told reporters that he is considering playing Berry on Thursday against the Green Bay Packers as the safety has "trained like crazy," despite sitting out the preseason.

Because Berry and the Chiefs could not reach a long-term contract agreement by the July 15 deadline, the two sides cannot sign an extension until after the season.

Berry, a four-time Pro Bowler, was reportedly looking for a contract similar to the five-year, $51.24million deal Harrison Smith got from the Minnesota Vikings.

The Chiefs were said to have inserted a disability clause in contract negotiations, as the 27-year-old had to sit out the 2014 season recovering from Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Berry won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award last season after undergoing chemotherapy in the offseason.

He finished the season with 61 tackles, 10 pass deflections and two interceptions.
