Paul Peterson continued his superb form and Daniel Brooks finished strong as the duo finished the first round of the European Masters in a four-way share of the lead with Frenchmen Mike Lorenzo-Vera and Gregory Havret.

American Peterson claimed his first European Tour title at the Czech Masters and carded an impressive six-under-par 64 at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Switzerland on Thursday.

A birdie at the last saw him beat Ryder Cup rookie Thomas Pieters in Prague, and Peterson once again went one stroke under par on the 18th hole to complete a near flawless round.

Peterson was two under by the turn and hit four more birdies on the way home, the only blot on his scorecard coming with a bogey at 11.

Englishman Brooks was two under through 13 holes, but he shot up the leaderboard with back-to-back eagles on the par-five 14th and 15th holes.

And, although a bogey at 16 stemmed his progress somewhat, another birdie at 17 and a par at the last ensured he remained among the leaders.

Havret's day started in auspicious fashion with a bogey at the first, but that proved the only blot on his scorecard as the Frenchman went seven under through the last 14 holes - including a run of three birdies between the sixth and eighth holes.

Lorenzo-Vera completes the leading quartet. The Frenchman shot a bogey-free round and played just 30 strokes after the turn in an impressive outing.

Masters victor and defending champion Danny Willett, who will contest his first Ryder Cup this month, and Andrew 'Beef' Johnston are among nine players who are just one stroke off the pace.

However, it was a day to forget for Ryder Cup rookies Andy Sullivan and Matthew Fitzpatrick, who are four and five over respectively and face a battle to make the weekend.
