Virat Kohli felt India were impressive in all facets of the game following their comprehensive win over New Zealand in the second Test.

The hosts sealed victory by 178 runs at Eden Gardens, securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series as well as a return to the top of the ICC rankings at Pakistan's expense.

Set an unlikely 376 to win, New Zealand were all out for 197 as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami took three wickets apiece to wrap up victory with a day to spare.

"A lovely Test match," Kohli said in his post-match presentation. "It was a complete all-round performance by the team.

"We ticked all the boxes. We came under pressure, we expected that from a good New Zealand side but it took character to bounce back every time.

"Our objective is to play consistent cricket. It depends on how good we are and how good we play. We've played some good cricket over the past one-and-a-half years and keep showing character whenever we're put under pressure."

Wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha was named man of the match for unbeaten half centuries in both innings with his side under the cosh, and Kohli was full of praise for his team-mate.

"He's the best keeper in the country right now and he's doing a great job in Test cricket," the captain said. "His hundred in West Indies [in August] helped his confidence.

"He wants to fight it out, he backs himself and that's key for him and he's been a revelation for the side."

Kohli also paid tribute to the Kolkata crowd, who he felt spurred his side on to take the seven wickets they needed after tea on Monday.

"The last session when we needed early wickets, the crowd helped us pick up those wickets," he said.

"It makes a massive difference on a bowler's mindset and puts the pressure on batsmen so a lot of credit to the crowd for staying behind us when we needed it the most."
