Rio 2016: Dominant Serbia clinch water polo gold

Serbia's dominance of men's water polo has been capped with a first Olympic gold medal, thanks to a convincing 11-7 win over Croatia in the final at Rio.

Serbia's dominance of men's water polo has been capped with a first Olympic gold medal, thanks to a convincing 11-7 win over Croatia in the final at Rio 2016.

Bronze medallists in London and Beijing, Serbia made it nine consecutive major tournament wins with their success on Saturday.

Dusan Mandic was the star at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, scoring with four of his six shots.

Defending champions Croatia missed their chances and after Serbia took a first-quarter lead, the latter never looked back.

Filip Filipovic, the tournament MVP, finished with a brace as the European and world champions added an Olympic gold to their recent haul of titles.

Serbia scored with 45.8 per cent of their shots, while Croatia were down at 23.3 despite a Sandro Sukno hat-trick.
