Wests Tigers kept their NRL top-eight hopes alive and ended those of New Zealand Warriors, coming from behind to complete a brilliant 36-24 win at Mt Smart Stadium.

The Tigers trailed by six points with only 10 minutes remaining, but crossed three times in an electrifying finale that boosted their finals prospects, though they will need to beat Canberra Raiders and hope Gold Coast Titans lose to North Queensland Cowboys in the final round.

Bodene Thompson capitalised on a drop from David Nofoaluma to put the Warriors ahead, but the Tigers hit back through Sauaso Sue and Aaron Woods.

However, it was the hosts who took the lead into half-time following tries from Solomone Kata – his 15th of the season – and Kiwi captain Simon Mannering.

Josh Addo-Carr's stunning pace saw him run the ball in from 90 metres out and Jordan Rankin added the extras to put the Tigers back on level terms, before Tuimoala Lolohea crossed on the back of some neat Warriors play.

But a sensational finish saw the Tigers turn the match around. After Shaun Johnson had his try chalked off for the hosts due to obstruction, a 40-20 from Luke Brooks was followed on the next set by Sue's second try.

Mitchell Moses and Kevin Naiqama then put the result beyond doubt in the closing minutes, with the visitors securing a potentially crucial win in New Zealand for the first time since 2011.

Newcastle Knights suffered a 17th successive NRL loss by going down 34-12 to the resurgent South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Greg Inglis and Sam Burgess touched down before Alex Johnston completed his double for Souths, while former New Zealand international Jeremy Smith signed off his final match for the Knights at Hunter stadium by converting Jake Mamo's try.
