The Englishman suffered an ankle injury during his side's 16-14 defeat at the hands of the Cronulla Sharks on Saturday.
Hodgson, 26, knows he is unlikely to face the Panthers, but he maintains some hope.
"It's not great. A bit of ligament damage there, bit of bone bruising as well on the inside so it's not great," he told a news conference on Tuesday.
"Chances wise, it's pretty slim, but I'm just going to do everything I can to be right for the weekend."
Hodgson said his ankle was reacting differently every day, giving him hope of playing on Saturday.
As to what he needed to be fit, the hooker kept it simple.
"I've got to run," Hodgson said.
"If I can run, then I'm sweet, but if I can't... it's as simple as that really."
