Jack Wighton's NRL season could be over after the Canberra Raiders full-back pleaded not guilty to a shoulder charge on Wests Tigers' Joel Edwards.

Wighton was cited for the grade two incident during the Raiders' 52-10 victory on Sunday, which secured them second place and home-field advantage in their qualifier against Cronulla Sharks next weekend.

The 23-year-old will face the NRL judiciary panel on Tuesday and if found guilty, will be handed a four-match suspension, which will rule him out of the entire Finals series.

The NRL's decision to charge Wighton and not Sharks hooker Michael Ennis for a similar shot on Melbourne Storm's Blake Green has drawn criticism from some fans.
