Daniil Kvyat has only finished in the points twice since being sent to Toro Rosso, but Franz Tost is confident he will improve.
Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost is confident Daniil Kvyat will rediscover his best form having struggled since his switch from Red Bull.
Kvyat secured the second podium of his career in the third race of the Formula One season in China, though his aggressive driving led to a post-race run-in with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel , who finished second behind Nico Rosberg.
At the Russian Grand Prix, Kvyat twice drove his Red Bull into the back of Vettel, who consequently crashed out on the first lap.
As a result the Russian was sent back to Toro Rosso, where he has only managed two points finishes in the following nine grands prix.
While Tost is not expecting significant improvement at Monza this weekend, he is confident Kvyat can rediscover his form from Singapore onwards.
"As you can imagine, it was quite difficult for him because in China he was on the third place and then two weeks later he was out of the car and it was really a difficult time but he recovers," said Tost in a media conference.
"Unfortunately, he also had some problems with the car in Monaco, for example, when we had the software issue, or later in Baku when we had this damper problem.
"I would say if we provide him with a good, competitive car he will come back to his original performance, and I hope that this will be the case from Singapore onwards.
"In Spa and in Monza, we knew from the beginning onwards we will struggle because of the track layout, but I expect some good races and a good performance from Daniil's side in the second half of the season."
