Former NBA MVP Charles Barkley believes he has never seen the league "as bad as it is" now.

The Golden State Warriors finished with the best regular-season record in NBA history with 73 wins in 2015-16, while their star player Stephen Curry became the first ever unanimous MVP.

Despite those achievements, Hall of Famer Barkley insists he has never seen the level across the league as low as this season.

"People think us old guys hate when we talk about it. It has nothing to do with the Warriors' greatness, [James] LeBron's greatness," the 53-year-old told Arizona Sports.

"But I've never seen the NBA as bad as it is, and I've been saying it the last three or four years.

"We've got too many young players coming out of college that don't know how to play. It's frustrating for me because I want to see competitive basketball."

The 11-time All-Star added: "We took a survey on our crew: How many actual NBA teams would you buy season tickets for?

"Four in the West and Cleveland [Cavaliers] obviously in the East. That's not good for our league."
