Safo-Antwi who grew up in the United Kingdom explained why he choose to participate for Ghana in an interview at the Rio Olympic Games.
The Ghanaian athlete said:
âGrowing up in a neighbourhood in London, it was very tough. There was a lot of crime in the area and I had to obviously get rid of the crime and do me and follow my dream of being an athlete.
âAnd I switched allegiances to run for Ghana because that was one of my dreams. I really wanted to do it and I really wanted to be at the Olympics so I figured out the best way of getting there and this was the best route for me.â
On his family growing up, Sean Safo-Antwi says it wasnât big enough and is also familiar with Ghana having visited sometime back.
âFamily surrounding growing up wasnât particularly big. It was average Iâd say. Two brothers at home in the UK, one sister in the UK also. I have some cousins in Ghana and some cousins in America. They used to live in Ghana. Itâs an average size family,â he said.
âIâve been to Ghana a while back. Iâm due to go there sometime this year preferably in September. I went to Ghana, Kumasi when I was younger. An area called Adum so Iâm not that familiar but Iâm familiar.â
