Ghanaian athlete fails to qualify in 50m freestyle swimming

Abeiku Gyekye Jackson places sixth in his 50m freestyle swimming at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The 16-year-old representative for Ghana at the Olympic Games went into his Heat 5 competition on Thursday against Abdoul Khadre Niane of Senegal,Meli Malani of Fifi, Maksim Inic of Montenegro, Ahmed Attellesey of Libya, Rahman Md Mahfizur of Bangladesh, Lum Zhaveli of Kosovo and Dulguun Batsaikhan of Mongolia.

Abdoul Khadre Niane of Senegal was first in the Men’s 50m freestyle race with Meli Malani and Maksim Inic coming in second and third position respectively.

Ghana’s Abeiku Gyekye Jackson recorded a time of 24.30 in his race at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium.

Abeiku is one of the 16 athletes from Ghana to represent at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

Kaya Forson has already been eliminated despite recording her best ever time in Rio with Szandra Szogedi also going out in Judo against Brazilian Mariana Silva.
