Six things to know about Ghana's new Sports Minister

President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has named Isaac Asiamah as the minister designate for the Youth and Sports Ministry.

Below are six things you need to know about him

Hometown

Isaac Kwame Asiamah was born on the eve of Christmas day (24 December) 1975 and hails from Tano Dumasi in the Ashanti.

Family

He is a family man with three children

Educational background: Highest education

Isaac Asiamah has a degree in Geography and Political from the University of Ghana (Legon) and Executive Master of Governance and Leadership, a masters degree from GIMPA.

Political experience

Asiamah was elected to parliament in 2004, as a MP for the Atwima Mponua constituency in the Ashanti Region. In the 2008, 2012 and 2016, he retained his seat as a member of parliament and as expected by many, he has been proposed for the youth and sports ministry as sector minister. He has in the past served on Parliamentary Committees for Mines and Energy as well as the Public Accounts Committee in the past, before his appointment onto the Parliamentary Select Committee for Youth and Sports.

Before becoming a parliamentarian in 2005, he had served in the New Patriotic Party as Policy Analyst and National Youth secretary.

Religion

The 42-year-old parliamentarian is a Christian who fellowship with the Anglican Church.

Association with sports

Asiamah who has a passion for sports was appointed onto the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports in 2013 to help in the policy direction of sports in Ghana and has since been involved in influencing major policies in sports, especially he played a key role in ensuring the passing of the sports bill.
