The Barcelona star is however expected to play in the Copa del Rey game against Valencia on Wednesday with the club confirming his return to first team duties.

The Argentina captain has experienced more kidney problems since the last one kept him out of Barcelona’s semifinal game in the Club World Cup last December.

Messi is reported by Mundo Deportivo in Argentina to be receiving treatment at the Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona. The player is expected to be put through shock wave lithotripsy to break up the stones in a non-invasive treatment method.
