Black Stars forward Jordan Ayew has been named the African Player of the Month for January.

New African Soccer, the organisers for the award named the Aston Villa man who is currently serving a three-match ban after a unanimous vote.

Jordan Ayew has scored five goals in 25 games since his transfer move from French Ligue 1 side FC Lorient to the English Premier League. Aston Villa won one game, had two draws and lost one in their game for the month of January.

“Jordan Ayew has really put in a good shift in the games that Aston Villa played in the month of January, and although they are really struggling to get results as a club, one cannot but notice and appreciate the desire and ability shown by the youngster in the course of the month.”

Jordan Ayew was sent off in Aston Villa’s Premier League game against West Ham for an elbow on Aaron Crisswell. The Ghanaian apologized to his manager Remi Garde and the public for his action that led to a ban in this crucial moment for his Aston Villa team.
