Asamoah Gyan was the toast of the fans, despite coming on with eight minutes remaining, as the Black Stars drew 1-1 against South Africa at the Moses Mabhida Sports Stadium, Durban on Tuesday.

Mubarak Wakaso, who emerged as the Man of the Match, shot Ghana into the lead in the 38th minute, before Ayanda Patosi drew level for the hosts with a shot from the edge of the box in the 51st minute.

Asamoah Gyan replaced Mubarak Wakaso and was mobbed by the fans, with some trying to climb the wire mesh to have a handshake with the Black Stars skipper.

Asamoah Gyan six year ago scored three goals during the 2010 FIFA World Cup staged in South Africa, but missed an extra-time penalty kick against Uruguay in the quarter-finals.
