The Phobians will be eyeing their first home win against the Tarkwa giants since the 2011/12 League season when they won 2-1.
Hearts of Oak in their opening fixture of the 2017 Ghana Premier League drew goalless at Inter Allies, a game they were outplayed but they were saved by goalkeeper Ben Mensah.
For the two-time FA champions, they struggled to beat WAFA 1-0, a goal which was scored by former Asante Kotoko attacking midfielder Bennet Ofori.
Hearts of Oak on Thursday announced the signing of a new head coach Frank Nuttall, but it is likely the Scottish will not be in the Phobians’ dug out as he is yet to receive his work permit.
Ahead of the game, Hearts of Oak general captain Thomas Abbey had a chat with Pulse.com.gh.
“Medeama have always been difficult whenever we play against them, they are not an easy side because they have good players,” Abbey said.
“But on Sunday in Accra, our target is to beat them that game means a lot to us because we want to get our first three points of the season so we are going all out.”
But Medeama’s captain Joseph Tetteh Zuta is confident his side will rein supreme over the Phobains.
“Check the record, it has been long since we lost to Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium, last season we beat them in Accra. With the morale in camp we will pick the three points on Sunday,” Zuta told Pulse.com.gh.
Head to Head
The two sides have engaged each other 16 times in the Ghana premier league since Kessben FC (now Medeama SC) gained promotion into the country’s top-flight division in 2007/2008 season.
Hearts of Oak have won 5 as against Medeama’s 8 with three games ending in a draw.
Out of the 15 meetings, 34 goals have been scored. The Phobians have scored 16 goals as against Medeam’s 18.
