PGA to organise programme for golfers who wants to turn professionals

PGA of Ghana to hold Q-School on 26th August for golfers

The Q-School will be held at the Danang Golf Club from Friday, August 26, 2016, to Sunday, August 28, 2016.

According to a statement from the PGA of Ghana, golfers who wish to become professionals must be at least 18 years, resident in Ghana, have attained a Basic Education Certificate holder as a minimum academic qualification and a full member of a Ghana Golf Association (GGA) member club.

The applicant must also have a current CONGU handicap of 0 – 9 and must submit a handwritten letter explaining why he or she wants to turn a professional golfer.

In addition, the applicant must also submit a birth certificate or any other Ghana ID approved by the PGA of Ghana executive board together with two passport sized photographs and a current CONGU handicap certificate from your club.

A letter of recommendation from the Captain of the applicant’s club must also be added to the submissions alongside a letter from the reputable sponsor of the applicant.

The statement added that assessment during the two-day Q-School for qualification to become a PGA Member will include; the applicant’s playing competency, rules of golf, golf etiquette and a basic knowledge of the history of golf.

Qualification, according to the PGA of Ghana will be limited to the first five in playing competency where applicants will play 54 holes, 36 on Friday and 18 on Saturday. A written test will be taken before the 18 holes on Saturday.

The statement read “those who make the cut will be expected to score a minimum of half marks in the Rules and Etiquette papers, otherwise, they will be deferred and given the opportunity to take the written paper once more, to be organised by the PGA. A pass will be required before PGA membership is bestowed”.

The lucky five will stay on and play in a local competition to be organised on Sunday. Applicants who are unsuccessful in obtaining their Players’ Card will need to re-apply for the next Q-School to be advertised.
