McIlroy ready for a rest after US PGA Championship

Ahead of the second major in July, Rory McIlroy has admitted he is looking forward to a rest after the US PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy is looking forward to some time off after the US PGA Championship as he looks to be fresh for the end of the season and the Ryder Cup.

The Northern Irishman is preparing for his second major of the month, the event at Baltusrol having been brought forward due to the Olympic Games.

McIlroy, hoping to improve on his finish of tied fifth at The Open, will not play in Rio when golf makes its return to the Olympics due to concerns over the Zika virus, and he is looking forward to an opportunity to recover while the competition takes place.

"There's not many seasons ... where you play two tournaments in a row and they are two majors," he said.

"The schedule's been a little different this year for obvious reasons.

"But it is what it is, and I'm looking forward to three weeks off after this and getting ready and fresh for the FedExCup Playoffs. And then The Ryder Cup, I'm playing five weeks out of six.

"I'll be as fresh as I can be for that."

The two-time US PGA Championship winner is looking for his fifth major title this weekend, and a first win on tour since the Irish Open in May.
