Tyrrell Hatton built on his impressive Saturday to claim his first European Tour title, winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship by four shots.

Hatton shot a course record equalling 62 on the Old Course at St Andrews, and although his second time round on Sunday was not quite as impressive, it was enough for the win.

The Englishman carded a six-under 66 to move to 23 under for the tournament, beating Richard Sterne and Ross Fisher – tied for second – to the title.

Hatton notched four birdies on the front nine, one of which included a 25-foot putt on the fourth, before posting futher gains on 12, 14 and 15.

A bogey on the 17th, his first since Friday, did nothing to take the shine of what was a comprehensive victory.

Fisher and South African Sterne both produced bogey-free rounds, with the Englishman sinking a birdie-putt on the 18th to earn a share of second on 19 under for the tournament.

Swede Joakim Lagergren was two shots further back in fourth, while Marc Warren came fifth.

Martin Kaymer – part of Europe's unsuccessful Ryder Cup team – carded a three-under 69 that was only enough for sixth position on 15 under.
