Ryder Cup 2016: The 2012 Ryder Cup was one of the most dramatic sporting events in history and it was Martin Kaymer's putt that won it for Europe.

Martin Kaymer still thinks his Ryder Cup-clinching putt at Medinah is the greatest achievement in his career.

The German is a two-time major winner and former world number one, but says his decisive stroke at the 2012 Ryder Cup is as good as it gets.

"Well, 100 per cent the Ryder Cup," Kaymer said on Thursday when asked what moment he gets quizzed about the most. "There's nothing bigger.

"The majors, it's kind of like a selfish win. I won for myself, for my career, for my caddie. But the Ryder Cup putt includes hundreds of people.

"You know, it's [the Ryder Cup] almost like in football or soccer where for some people, that is almost like a religion. I was very glad that I got that gift in 2012 to have the opportunity to make something amazing happen in my career that will never happen again."

Kaymer has been in fine form of late, recording eight top-15 finishes since the end of May.

However, the 31-year-old needed a captain's pick from Darren Clarke to make his fourth appearance for Europe, having enjoyed success on each of his last three showings.

He is versatile enough to be paired with any of his 11 team-mates, but concedes to having a special admiration for Lee Westwood.

"You know, 2010, when I played with him, I was so happy to have him next to me," he added. "And it was lucky that Colin Montgomerie, that he paired me with him, because I would have played with anyone. But Montgomerie did that very, very well; that he thought, 'I think Kaymer can play the best with Westwood together'.

"So he [Westwood] brings a lot of calmness and peace into the team room. But also a lot of strength, because if you see him as a person, he's a very strong character, a very strong player, and I think that mix is very rare."
