Alexander Levy displaced Bernd Wiesberger at the top of the European Open leaderboard with a brilliant finish to his interrupted first round.

Wiesberger held the overnight lead after carding an eight-under 63 on Thursday, with Levy four shots back, but only through the first nine holes.

There was an early suspension due to fog on Friday as the elements continued to conspire against the event, but the Frenchman's consistency was unhindered as he chipped in for a second birdie of the day at the 14th.

Levy almost produced a hole in one on the par-three 17th but had to settle for a birdie, picking up another shot on the final hole to move one clear of Wiesberger.

A run of six birdies sent Jason Scrivener, who carded a seven-under 65, up to third, where he sat two shots adrift of the leader, but Ross Fisher was unable to join him due to a double bogey at 18.

The final hole proved worse for Matthew Southgate, a double-bogey leaving him joint-seventh on five under.

Round two has already begun, though play will carry over onto Saturday morning.
