Legendary Ghanaian boxer honoured by President Akufo-Addo at Independence Day celebrations

The legendary boxer on Monday became the first Ghanaian to receive a symbolic torch after it was used to light the flame to mark Ghana's 60th Independence Day Anniversary by President AKufo-Addo.

The torch will then embark on a relay throughout the 10 regions of Ghana and return to its starting point on March 6, 2018.

Chiefs, opinion leaders, local heroes and Ghanaians from all walks of life are expected to be part of this relay.

Azumah Nelson is widely considered the greatest African boxer of all time. He held the WBC featherweight title once and the WBC super featherweight title twice and defended these titles for over a decade starting 1983 to 1994.

Azumah Nelson who won gold for Ghana in the All African Games and the Commonwealth games is a member of both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
