Ghana Premier League champions Wa All Starts were crowned at the home venue of relegated club Sekondi Hasaacas on the final match day of the season.
Such contrast. This was a trophy and medals presentation day before the eyes of a bewildered home fans who had seen their side lose their place in Ghana’s top flight.
Hasaacas however ended their campaign marvellously by beating the Wa lads 3-0. The result is also that bad for the champions who showed little commitment for competitiveness.
Wa All Stars enjoyed a privileged guard of honour from Hasaacas, with the new league trophy glittering before them as they walked majestically to the field amidst the applause from the fans.
It was homecoming for coach Anos Kwame Adipah and a quartet of his players who all hails from the Sekondi Takoradi metropolis. Emmanuel Ocran, Maxwell Baako, Matthew Kelvin Andoh and Kweku Assuadze Baffoe. They all had family and friends cheering them.
The football sold to the world audience was not the best except the goals. Samuel Afful scored a brace in the 2nd and 60th minutes respectively and the last from Prince Papa Arkoh through a penalty in the 88th minute.
A mixed atmosphere in the end and an incredible contrast again - match day winners going on relegation and losers jubilating as league champions.
