League leaders Hearts held by champions AshGold in Accra

Match report of the Ghana Premier League game between Hearts of Oak and Ashanti Gold.

Moment later the away side also had their moment but Safiu Mumuni shot straight into Soulama Abdoulaye’s hands from close range.

It was end to end action from the 15 minutes mark – both sides threw a lot of bodies upfront in search of the opener, but the away side looked more dangerous upfront.

The pendulum swung into Ashanti Gold favour as they pelted the Phobians with series of attacks – Alhassan Nuhu tested Soualama Abdoualye from 30 yards but the Burkinabe import stood to the test.

Within the space of two minutes the Miners created two goal scoring opportunities but they failed to find the back of the net.

Ashanti Gold in the 32nd minute were paid for their profligacy as the Phobians broke the deadlock through Robin Gnagne spot kick after Fatau Dauda brought down slippery Patrick Razak.

The Phobians after taking the lead lost the midfield battle to the Miners and the away side grabbed the needed equalizer in the 43 minute through Anthony Yerful after he struck home Amos Addai cut-back pass.

Both sides began the second half on a good note, but the Phobians were the better side in the exchanges. Sergio Traguil shifting from 4:4:2 to 4:2:3:1 gave the home side a lot of options on the field as they kept the heat on the Miners but Kwame Kizito with his back facing Ashanti Gold’s goal post headed wide from Patrick Razak’s miscue shot.

The Miners then took control of the game as the Phobians were left chasing shadows – the away side were awful upfront as they failed to convert the chances they had.

Hearts of Oak had their moments but they also lacked the firing power upfront. The defense network of the two sides did a great job on the day as they swept all the dangerous ball that came to their respective area.

Late in the game, the Phobians were reduced to ten after Inusah Musah received his second yellow card in the game. Hearts of Oak despite playing with ten men held on as the game ended 1-1.
