Hearts of Oak draw 1-1 with Aduana Stars

Match report of the Ghana Premier League game between Aduana Stars and Hearts of Oak.

Aduana Stars failed to go top of the league table after they played out a drawn game at home by Hearts of Oak on match day 13 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday at the Dormaa Park.

The results means that the Phobians are yet to lose an away game in the ongoing campaign as they currently sit on top of the log sheet with 25 points while Aduana Stars are at the second position with 23 points.

Emmanuel Akuoko shot the home side into the lead in the first half but they were made to pay for their profligacy as Cosmos Dauda restored parity for the Accra giants in the second half.

Aduana Stars went straight into action and launched a lot of attacks into Hearts of Oak’s final third but the defense men of the Phobians led by Robin Gnagne dealt with those dangerous balls.

The away side were lively in the game with their wing play as Zakaria Mumuni tormented Kennedy Appiah with his pace. On the other hand Yaya Mohammed’s movement in the game was curtailed by Vincent Atinga.

The Phobians started picking up the pieces as they pushed the host back but failed to get the ball past Aduana Stars’ back four, moment later the home side bombarded the away side with series of attack but Samuel Akurugu saved the situation for the Accra giants.

In the 18th minute, Emmanuel Akuoko shot the ‘Ogya Lads’ into the lead after he connected home Godfred Saka’s free-kick. Two minutes later Yaya Mohammed couldn’t double Aduana’ lead as Samuel Akurugu spilled off his point blank shot before the danger was cleared by Fatau Mohammed.

Hearts of Oak threw a lot of men upfront in search of the equalizer as Samuel Yeboah who came on for injured Musah Ibrahim shot wide, the Phobians launched another attack but Isaac Mensah failed to connect Ollenu Ashittey’s lovely pass.

The second half was a different story as the Phobians improved their performance – they kept the heat on the home side but Joseph Addo who in the first half was less busy was forced to make some timely saves to deny the away side from getting the equalizer.

Yaya Mohammed who was heavily policed by Hearts of Oak defense men in the 62 minute fluffed a glaring chance after he was thread on goal by Elvis Opoku, the Phobians also created a chance of their own but Samuel Yeboah shot went wide.

Hearts of Oak spirited performance after the recess paid off in the 69 minute after Cosmos Dauda tucked home from a close range to pull even for the Phobians. The goal was Cosmos’ fifth of the ongoing campaign.

Aduana Stars regrouped and they came close in restoring their lead but Yaya Mohammed’s shot hit the side net, Hearts of Oak responded but Isaac Mensah failed to beat Joseph Addo in post for the home side.

It was the an end to end action but chances were far and few and with four minutes of time added on, the game was brought to an end.
