GFA ready to accept boycott by any premier league club

Some Ghana Premier League sides in recent times, notably New Edubiase United have threatened to pull out of the ongoing Ghana Premier League due to financial challenges and poor officiating.

The financial loads are becoming unbearable for some of the clubs, because the headline sponsors of the league Capital Bank withdrew, after the 2014-15 league season and the clubs at the moment depend on the scanty money from the gate proceeds and TV rights from Super Sports.

Although, the GFA admits that threats from clubs is a disincentive to sponsorship, it has taken a hard decision to welcome withdrawals from any Ghana Premier League side.

“Frequent attempts by clubs to withdraw from the league push away prospective sponsors. However, the Emergency Committee of the GFA in a meeting on its platform to a decision to accept request from any club that wants to boycott the league,” Sanni Darra, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association told Happy FM.

The Emergency Committee which is made up of the President of the GFA, the Vice President and the General Secretary and two other Executive Committee members run the day to day administration of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
