Dwarfs whitewash Asante Kotoko in 5-goal thriller

Asante Kotoko suffered their worst defeat against Dwarfs since, August, 1969, as the Cape Coaster hit four goals past Ernest Sowah on Wednesday.

Bright Lukman, last season's top scorer of the GN Bank Division One League, climaxed an afternoon of good football with two goals. He opened the scoring in the 16th minute before he doubled the score line four minutes later from a rebound, after Ernest Sowah had failed to make a first time save.

Christopher Boney, a former Asante Kotoko defender, who made a return to Ebusua Dwarfs in the beginning of the second  half nailed the Porcupine Warriors in the coffin with the third in the 28 minute.

The woes of Kotoko was deepened in the 35th minute, when Eric Donkor, the stand in skipper of the Kumasi giants in the absence of Amos Frimpong who started the game from the bench was sent off for a second booking.

Dwarfs, after recess made numerical advantage count by increasing the tally to 4-0 in the 54 minute through Nicholas Gyan.

Kotoko afterwards threw everything into attack by bringing on Seidu Bancey for Evan Quao and the substitution paid off, as they got a penalty after a player had been fouled in the 18-yard box.

And Amos Frimpong scored from the spot kick to Kotoko a consolation goal in the 87 minute.

Asante Kotoko were affected by the absence of Dauda Mohammed, the leading top scorer of the club. Dauda Mohammed is in the camp of the Black Satellites, who are preparing to take on their Senegalese counterparts in the second leg of the African Youth Championship qualifiers in Cape Coast.

This is the highest goals conceded by Kotoko, since Ashgold handed them a 4-1 defeat in 2004.

However, it is worth noting that the highest defeat of Kotoko in recent times came last  season against Berekum Chelsea in Kumasi: 0-3
