BETWAY add value to GPL coaches

Coaches present during the event included current Ghana Premier League holder Enos Adepa of Wa All Stars, last season’s champion Bashir Hayford of Ashanti Gold as well as coaches Michael Osei and Yaw Preko, representing giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak respectively. Ghana Football Association Technical Director Francis Oti Akenteng, along with CAF instructor Mas-Ud Didi Dramani also graced the occasion.

In August, BETWAY signed a club record £10m per season sponsorship deal with the London-based club, and have since been on a campaign to strengthen their presence across Africa.

Lecturers at the event included Ashley Kotzin, C.E.O of Forward Zone and Stijn Vandenbroucke, Head of Medical and Sports Science at West Ham.

The coaches were taken through training methods, performance analysis, medical and fitness issues as well as general challenges facing the art of coaching at the top level.

Vandenbroucke, who utilized a lot of informative slides to demonstrate the detail to which West Ham analyse and track the output of their players, said after 17 years of working within football, he has discovered one secret: “If you get the basics right, you’ll go a long way. Do the basics, and you’ll have success.”

He revealed how the staff of the various backroom departments at the club came together at the end of an impressive 2015/16 season to author a book titled: When you’re on top of your game, you need to change your game.

“We beat big teams, broke records – but in the end we needed to reflect and restrategize because it won’t be the same next season,” he explained.

The Belgian also expressed his delight at being in Ghana.

“I have been rehabilitating Andre Ayew for the last few weeks and every time he’s like, ‘I want to go back to Ghana. When can we go back to Ghana?’” he laughed. “And now we’re both here and it’s been a great experience.”

As part of the BETWAY campaign, the West Ham duo of Ghana vice-captain Andre Ayew and English youth star Ashley Fletcher have been in Ghana as ambassadors of the brand over the last two days, interacting with fans and journalists.

Yesterday, Wednesday October 5, they held a press conference at Lizzy’s Sports Complex at East Legon as part of a well-attended opening event, followed by a meet-and-greet session at the BETWAY offices at Adabraka.

This afternoon, the activities will be climaxed at the Accra Mall with a photograph and autograph session with fans featuring Ayew and Fletcher.m
