I was not disappointed by Black Stars snub - Raphael Dwamena

The red-hot striker opened up in an exclusive interview on Pulse Sports' Game Plan show

The striker's 21 goals in 20 games for Austria Lustenau in the first half of this season brought him to the attention of erstwhile Ghana coach Avram Grant, who named him in his provisional Afcon squad that trained in Accra ahead of the tournament.

Speaking on Pulse Sports'Game Plan show with Godfred Akoto Boafo on Tuesday, Dwamena said the opportunity to mingle with the national team was a huge boost for his fledgling career.

"For me it was pure joy; it felt like my prayers had been answered. It was a really great experience for me as a young player and I learnt a lot.

Unfortunately, when the Black Stars squad was pruned down to the final 23-man list, the 21-year-old failed to make the cut.

He insists missing out on the flight to Gabon did not hurt his confidence.

"I wasn’t disappointed much because I felt like I still have time to develop, that I still have time to learn. It was a lesson for me to learn and train harder so that next time when I’m called I will be able to prove myself well."

Dwamena's rise to prominence caught many Ghanaians unawares. He began at Austria-based Red Bull Salzburg's satellite academy in Ghana, before getting the opportunity to travel to Austria to join the actual club in 2014.

He spent two years on loan at the club's feeder club FC Liefering (2014-2016) where he managed six goals in 26 appearances.

It was at Austria Lustenau, whom he joined ahead of the 2016/17 season, where he found his form. His prolific form saw him land a big money move to Swiss second tier side FC Zurich in January this year.

After nine matches in Zurich, he has already bagged five goals.
