The Israeli signed a 27-month deal with the Ghana Football Association in November 2014 to succeed James Kwesi Appiah as coach of the Black Stars.

According to GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, Grant had two tasks; to "do well" at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and to "win" the 2017 edition in Gabon.
