GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi to be probed

Government has directed a forensic probe into the activities of the Ghana Football Association.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its President, Kwesi Nyantakyi are to be investigated by way of forensic audit for alleged financial deals in matches played by the Black Stars towards Ghana's participation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

This was announced by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, on Thursday, June 11 upon the release of government’s White Paper on the report.

The report calls for investigations to ascertain claims of losses totaling $1,002,000 during the matches involving Ghana and Cape Verde, Ghana and Nigeria, and Ghana and Togo ahead of the Brazil tournament.

Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi will face investigations over how he spent $200,000 the state paid to him towards a friendly match while the Black Stars were preparing for the World Cup.

Again, the investigations would establish the claim by the GFA that an amount of $350,000 it received from the Japan friendly game was used to offset the deficit incurred in the Ghana - Cape Verde qualifying match.

Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong speaking to the media however, stressed that some of the recommendations were not accepted while modifications were made to others. Read more

“The next step after the issuance of this White Paper is the implementation of the recommendations, which have been accepted, as well as those accepted with modifications,” she said.

President Mahama set up the three-member Commission to investigate the backroom rumpus that contributed to Ghana’s early exit from the global showpiece in Brazil.
