Former UN Secretary General Dr. Kofi Annan has called for greater focus on the provision of opportunities and resources for young Ghanaians and Africans through sports.
The 77-year-old who is also a lifetime UN Humanitarian and Peace Ambassador made the remarks during a tour at the Right to Dream Academy in Senchi, Eastern Region of Ghana.
Dr. Kofi Annan was accompanied by his wife and son, Kojo Annan who is the founder of a soon to be launched Africa 10 project.
Dr. Annan disclosed the Right to Dream Academy model should be the template for sports education and excellence in the country.
He said:
“I think it’s extremely important that we provide opportunities for them. The talented young Africans are the leaders of tomorrow. If we ignore them, and you don’t develop them to become future leaders, the country and the community is goint to suffer.
“Sport has had the capacity of bringing everybody together. Bringing young people together to play regardless of tribe, race, region and to develop their skills and often to learn together and to learn about accepting rules. It’s education for life.
