Eric Dier relishing future at Tottenham with Pochettino

He signed a fresh five-year deal at Tottenham on Tuesday and Eric Dier is eagerly awaiting his Champions League debut against Monaco this week.

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier believes the future is bright for the club as he prepares to make his Champions League bow on Wednesday.

The England international midfielder agreed a new five-year deal on Tuesday, 24 hours before Spurs take on Monaco in their Group E opener at Wembley.

Having moved to White Hart Lane from Sporting CP two years ago, Dier has established himself as a first-team regular for both club and country, exemplifying Mauricio Pochettino's faith in young English talent.

And the 22-year-old is keen to repay the faith shown in him by the Argentinian over the next few years.

"It's been an unbelievable two years, the change has been amazing and I'm so happy to continue on this journey," Dier told Spurs' official website.

"I'm really looking forward to the future and that's what makes it so easy to want to stay here - the fantastic manager we have, the great club, the fans, all the infrastructure we have, the new stadium being built – it's all really exciting and I want to grow with the club at the same pace.

"It's a pleasure to come here every day and I enjoy seeing everyone, it's like playing football with your mates.

"There is a fantastic feeling around the club. Obviously, when you play that many games for a club and share good moments like we have over the last two years you create a very tight connection to the club.

"It's fantastic for us young players to have a manager with his attitude and work rate. It's something we all look up to.

"Every day we want to improve. We beat Stoke 4-0 on Saturday but he will want everything from us as if we lost 4-0, that's his attitude and it's fantastic for us young players to be around someone who is like that, always working at 100 per cent, always wanting to improve. He wants to improve and we want to improve. It’s a fantastic mix."

Spurs will play their home Champions League games at Wembley due to renovations at White Hart Lane ahead of a move to the new stadium next season.

Monaco represent familiar foes for Spurs, the two clubs having met in the Europa League last season, while Dier played under opposition boss Leonardo Jardim during his time at Sporting.

"He was my manager for one season there," Dier said in Tuesday's media conference. "I was in the first-team squad with him. He's a very good manager. I saw him last year when we played them and I'll look forward to seeing him again.

"It helps us that we know Monaco having played them last season, but this will be a different match and it's difficult to compare.

"We're all excited to play in the Champions League and at such a special stadium like Wembley. We want to make great memories.

"This is the highest level of football and everyone is excited. It's a great challenge and we all want to take that challenge."
