The 31-year-old striker has been battling with injuries since 2015, a situation that made him lose a starting place at Shanghai SIPG, before joining Al Ahli Dubai last year summer.

Gyan has disclosed he almost gave up but had to fight back to save his career from early retirement.

“I was a bit frustrated to the extent that the woman (wife) asked me to quit," he told Accra-based Hot FM

"I nearly quit the game due to the recurrent injuries. But sometimes you have to be mentally tough to surmount the challenges.

“It was a huge challenge but I'm glad I'm a fighter and keeps fighting. I am sure I can play for many years.

"One thing about football is about dedication. If you have the passion and are dedicated, you can rise above the storm no matter the difficulties."

Asamoah Gyan missed some of Ghana’s games in the 2017 Africa Cup Nation, after sustaining injuries during the tournament.
