Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan has opened up on his most memorable goal for Ghana, insisting his debut goal against Somalia in 2003 tops the rest.

The 31-year-old rose to the international scene 14 years ago, when he made his debut against Somalia in a World Cup qualifier.

Gyan – then just a 17-year-old – became Black Stars’ youngest ever scorer with his opening goal against the Pirates, before going on to add a second as Ghana run out 5-0 winners.

The on-loan Al Ahli striker has gone on to etch his name further into the history books of his country by becoming the first ever player to score 50 goals for the Black Stars.

The former Sunderland attacker’s opener in Ghana’s 5-0 win over Ethiopia last Sunday made him only the sixth player from Africa to score 50 international goals.

Having scored goals across various competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup, the striker has some spectaculars in his archives.

However, he insists his debut goal for Ghana in 2003 ranks tops.

“I have scored a lot of goals as everybody knows, but I will say the goal I scored against Somalia in 2003 is my memorable goal as it was my debut appearance for my country at the senior level,” Gyan revealed at a media briefing.

Gyan is currently Ghana’s all-time top-scorer with 50 goals in 103 appearances.
