Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan says he was very impressed with the performance of midfielder Thomas Partey in Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Uganda in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder put in a sublime performance against the Cranes, having been handed just his second start with the Black Stars.

The 23-year-old was a surprise pick ahead of the more experienced duo of Agyemang Badu and Afriyie Acquah, however, his performance on the day justified why Avram Grant named him in his starting line-up for Ghana's opener.

And Partey’s national team captain has now praised him, insisting the Atletico Madrid midfielder’s performance really caught his eye.

“[He is a] Great talent. I’m not surprised that be was able to put up such a [good] performance,” Gyan said in an interview with Asempa FM.

“Because although he is not a regular with Atletico Madrid, he still proves himself anytime he gets the chance. He is a different player [to other midfielders in the national team] but I am not surprised he had a good day.

“I am confident that anytime he gets the opportunity he will deliver and that is exactly what he did yesterday.”

Partey will be hoping to continue his impressive start to the Africa Cup of Nations when Ghana face Mali on Saturday, January 21.
