Forget the APOTY, Andre Ayew is still Africa's shining star

Andre Ayew missed out on the 2015 African Player of the Year award. However, the interest from top clubs the Ghanaian is continuously attracting shows he is still Africa's shining star, Kwame Boakye writes

This fact must be stated. Andre Ayew missing out on the African Player of the Year Award to Peirre-Emerick Aubameyang takes nothing away from his football capabilities.

The award has a timeline which is 365 days. And for those number of days, Peirre-Emerick Aubameyang was a notch above the Ghana international according to the popular opinions of the voting body. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

But push that timeline backwards for two years, four years, six years and Andre Ayew is still the excellent player that he is and has always been.

Starting your football career with the burden of your legendary football father's reputation hanging at the back of your head is no easy task to cope with.

Andre Ayew dealer with that perfectly. Even at a younger age, you could see real football potential, a potential that has been evident for both club and country. For the Andre Ayew fanatics, this is no news but it seems the international media are now wrapping their head around the Black Stars vice-captain's awesomeness.

For what he stated as the next best direction in his career, Andre Ayew made a decision to join arguably the most watched and entertaining league in the world, the English Premier League.

The emotions that has been part of Andre Ayew's football package was not absent in his farewell to Olympique Marseille, a club he had played for for so long. But the tears shed were worth it at least for the Premier League fans.

The Ghanaian was a player who made people doubt the term 'settling into the Premier League' [something the football world is still waiting for Memphis Depay to do].

The moment Andre Ayew pulled on a shirt to play Swansea City's first league game against Champions Chelsea, the evidence of clubs scrambling for his signature was brought to light.

Swansea City's abysmal form this season has been a catalyst to how fast Andre Ayew's pursuits made their interests known and January can't pass fast enough for the Wales club.

Sunderland, whatever their motives are [whether to impress their fans on chasing the best transferred player to the Premier League last summer or are really hell bent on signing Ayew] made the first shocking approach in signing Andre Ayew. After that bid was turned down by Swansea, the Black Cats are reported to be preparing an improved offer for the Ghanaian. Shocking huh! Considering Sunderland's league position.

Roman Abramovich, the owner of Premier League champions Chelsea is reported to be a huge fan of former Olympique Marseille player Ayew after watching him in his first 6 months in England.

And truth be told, if Chelsea are not relegated this season, they will be up there competing for the title next season.

That makes the Stamford Bridge outfit a more preferable option for Ayew to Sunderland.

For immediate Premier League success, Leicester City who are flying high and level on points with Arsenal are also seeking for the services of The Swansea City player.

Liverpool, a club Andre supports are ready to enter the battle should Swansea be willing to sell. But the Wales club are not considering that as an option or something to think about. That's shows the growing superb reputation of Andre Ayew as a global shining star.

These transfer pursuits do not come out of the blue. They are a result of constant hard work and consistency in excellence. The son of Abedi Pele has done that.

And it is worth noting that despite missing out on the African Player of the Year Award, Andre Ayew is still Africa's shining star.
