Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho out for six weeks

The Liverpool will face six weeks on the sidelines after badly damaging his ankle in Reds’ 2-0 win over Sunderland.

The 24-year-old suffered ankle ligament damage during his side’s 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday. Although initial fears of a broken ankle were swiftly allayed the player is set to be out for six after taking his scan

Philippe Coutinho has been in stellar form this season, grabbing six goals and six assists in 14 games so far – and the injury has come at a terrible time given the busy Christmas period coming up.

He was hurt in the first half of the Premier League clash following a challenge from Black Cats midfielder Dider Ndong and was carried off on a stretcher.

There is some positive news for the Reds as Roberto Firmino showed no ill effects after suffering a kick to the calf.

Adam Lallana is still recovering from the groin problem he suffered while on international duty.

The attacker was forced off during England’s 2-2 draw with Spain a fortnight ago.

Lallana has been training away from the rest of the squad in hope he might be able to return next weekend.
