Christian Atsu scores in penalty shootout as Newcastle suffer elimination

The Ghana midfielder was the only Newcastle United player to score when they lost 3-1 in penalty shootout against Hull City, after the game had ended 1-1 in regulation time on Tuesday.

The game ended goalless in the 90th minutes of regulation, but Newcastle shot into the lead during the extra time through Mohamed Diame in the 98th minute.

However, Robert Snodgrass put Hull City on level pegging a minute later.

During the penalty shootout for Hull City, Robert Snodgrass, Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone scored while for Newcastle only Christian Atsu netted. Jonjo Shelvey saw his penalty saved, Dwight Gayle crashed his against the crossbar and Yoan Gouffran was also denied by Hull keeper Eldin Jakupović.
