Grant and Ghana to be safe

The Egyptian FA have promised security for both the Black Stars and their Israeli coach ahead of their 2018 World Cup qualifier this weekend.

Egypt and Israel have had tense diplomatic relations for decades, with citizens of each country often not being welcome in the other.

Last week, speculations emerged that some Egyptian fans had written messages to their FA threatening to be hostile to the Ghana coach.

"Ghana started complaining about safety in Egypt," Sweilam admitted, speaking to ON Sport.

"We don’t care about their manager’s nationality. We will treat him as any other foreign manager.."

Sweilam also said the FA have made arrangements to see to the security of the Ghana team when they arrive in Alexandria for the tie.

"We also addressed the Ministry of Interior to strengthen security for the Ghana national team," he confirmed.

This comes as an interesting development as Sweilam had claimed last week that the Egyptian FA wouldn't be making any special security arrangement for the Ghana team amid the Grant concerns.

"Ghana is a normal team just like any other opponent that visits Egypt, the security measures will not see any change,” he had told DMC Sports TV.

Sweilam also reiterated the importance of the game and how it is a must- win if the Egyptians want to make it to their first World Cup since 1990.

“We mustn’t give them any chance against us because they are our main opponent in the World Cup qualifiers," he said.

Egypt welcome Ghana to the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Sunday, November 13.

Last month, the Egyptian FA cleared a huge crowd to attend the game at the 86,000 capacity stadium.

The match is a Match Day Two fixture in Group E of CAF's final round of 2018 World Cup qualifying.
