Daniyar Yeleussinov secured Kazakhstan's third gold medal of Rio 2016 with victory by unanimous decision in his welterweight final bout with Uzbekistan's Shakhram Giyasov.

Yeleussinov claimed the first two rounds at the Riocentro - Pavilion 6 on Wednesday and, despite Giyasov fighting back to take the third, all three judges scored the bout 29-28 in favour of the Kazakh.

The 25-year-old Yeleussinov has been in dominant form throughout the competition, with all four of his victories coming via unanimous decision, and now adds the OIympic title to the World Championship gold and silver medals he won in 2013 and 2015 respectively.

Competition in the ring in Rio has been marred by controversy surrounding the judging, and the International Boxing Association confirmed on Wednesday that some referees and judges involved in contentious decisions at the Rio Olympics will play no further part in the Games.

France's Estelle Mossely made sure there was no need for judges in her women's lightweight bout with Russia's Anastasiia Beliakova, sealing her place in the final by technical knock-out.

She will face Yin Jinhua for the gold after the Chinese beat Finland's Mira Potkonen on points.

HIGHLIGHT

Kazakhstan have now won welterweight gold in each of the past four Olympic Games following Yeleussinov's triumph.

The former world champion demonstrated his ring craft as he proved too elusive for the aggressive Giyasov to score effectively.

And it was Yeleussinov's work on the counter that made the difference as he added to Dmitriy Balandin's 200 metre breaststroke gold and Nijat Rahimov's men's 77kg weightlifting success for Kazakhstan.
